Members and supporters of the Action Democratic Party of Ward 8, Olorunda Local Government Council Area of Osun State last Saturday had a raw deal in the hands of some suspected political thugs believed to be on the payroll of the ruling-All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
According to one of the victims, Ariyibi Sunday, the suspected thugs double-crossed their bus in Ilesa while they were returning from their party’s mega rally held in the ancient town.
According to him, on sighting their bus from afar, the suspected political thugs numbering about forty jumped to the middle of the road brandishing cutlasses, charms and other dangerous weapons shouting on the victims to henceforth stop shouting ‘Sheu’ the ADP governorship candidate acronym and further warning their victims to henceforth stop supporting ADP in Ilesa as the town belongs to the APC and its candidate.
“The thugs just jumped to the middle of the road thus forcing our driver to apply his brakes.
“Once the vehicle stopped, the thugs just descended on us and immediately started attacking us with all the weapons in their hands,” Ariyiby stated in tears.
Among the victims of the dastardly attack was an eight-month old baby, Oladele David, as well as the mother, Oladele Grace.
Other victims of the attack were Awoniyi Banke, Adeleke Folasade (Women Leader) and Bankole Iyabo.
In his immediate reaction to the attack, the ADP Chairman in the state, Hon. Toye Akinola condemned the attack and charged the security agencies in the state to ensure the of lives and property of the citizenry, especially at time when the governorship election is just round the corner.
In his immediate reaction on hearing the news, a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Sunday Akere said the unwarranted attack was one too many, while calling on ADP members in the state not to embark on any retaliatory acts capable of worsening the political situation.
