transport increases productivity gained from access to a larger and more
diverse base of inputs such as raw materials, parts, energy, and labor, and broader markets for more diverse outputs

access to wider markets adds to economies of scale in production, distribution, and consumption, thereby increasing economic growth
i ) Slow : Speed of Inland water transport is very slow and therefore this mode of transport is unsuitable where time is an important factor .
ii ) Limited Area of Operation: It can be used only in a limited area which is served by deep canals and rivers .
iii ) Seasonal Character: Rivers and canals cannot be operated for transportation through out the year as water may freeze during winter or water level may go very much down during summer .
iv ) Unreliable : The inland water transport by rivers is unreliable. Sometimes the river changes its course which causes dislocation in the normalroute of the trade .

1. The exploitation of a country ‘s comparative advantage, which means that trade encourages a country to specialise in producing only those goods and services which it can produce more effectively and efficiently, and at the lowest opportunity cost .
2. Producing a narrow range of goods and services for the domestic and export market means that a country can produce in at higher volumes, which provides further cost benefits in terms of economies of scale.
3. Trade increases competition and lowers world prices , which provides benefits to consumers by raising the purchasing power of their own
income , and leads a rise in consumer surplus .
Tourism is the activities of people traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for leisure , business or other purposes for not more than one consecutive year .
– Revamp, operate and transfer:
With a solid national tourism policy , the modus operandi to revamp or build, operate and transfer the sites will be simplified . A system where the private sector develops and operates a site for a few years until they accrue returns on their investments before transferring the facility to the government will yield benefit
– Adopt a Tourist site:
As part of their Corporate Social Responsibilities ( CSR) , blue chip companies should be encouraged to adopt a tourist destination within their locale, causing them to function as pseudo -owners of the site.
– Supporting Infrastructure:
Security, electricity, transportation, communication and other supporting infrastructure are key factors that attract tourists to a country . If they are in a comatose , visitors will search for alternative destinations. It is pertinent to provide these supporting infrastructures for leisure and business travel to Nigeria to grow.
– Implementation of National Tourism Policy :
With the thrust of the national policy being to make Nigeria the tourism destination in Africa, a boost tourism in the country if the recommendations are conscientiously implemented
