Leicester City Unveils Ex-Manchester United Defender As Latest Signing (Photos)

Leicester City Football Club have agreed terms with West Bromwich Albion for the transfer of defender Jonny Evans, subject to Premier League approval.

The 30-year-old Northern Ireland international has signed a three-year contract at King Power Stadium and becomes the Foxes’ second summer signing after terms were agreed for Portuguese defender Ricardo Pereira.

An experienced Premier League defender with almost 250 appearances, Evans has spent the last three years with West Brom and was appointed club captain at the beginning of last season.

The three-time Premier League-winning centre-back, who can also operate as a left-back, made his international debut for Northern Ireland in 2006, and has established an impressive reputation as a defender.

“I hope that I can give lots to the team and the Club. It’s a great place to play football, the fans really get behind the team and the players are fantastic – these are all factors that made me want to sign for this Football Club.”

Leicester City manager, Claude Puel said: “Jonny is a player of great experience in the Premier League and to have him as part of our squad is fantastic news for the Football Club. He knows exactly what it takes, he is a winner and a leader. He will bring a great deal to our squad and I’m delighted to welcome him to Leicester City.”

“Then we are going to wait and see how Konstantinos Mavropanos is improving with his injuries because he is also a centre-back who can help us.”

Emery added: “Another option we can play with two, with three, and (full-backs) Nacho Monreal and (Stephan) Lichtsteiner can play in this position.

“I prefer to use, if we can, a specialist centre-back.”
