President Muhammadu Buhari has said his government will not release a dime from the treasury to fund campaign for 2019 elections.
The President gave the stern warning yesterday via a few tweets on his official Twitter handle. Buhari said he will not authorise the use of state funds for election financing.
Buhari further noted that the ‘clean-up of campaign financing in Nigeria’ is one legacy will would leave.
I have made it clear to Government officials that there will be no money from the treasury for use in the 2019 campaign. I will not authorize that. One of the legacies I would like to leave behind is the clean-up of campaign financing in Nigeria.
The President also stated that sharing money to prospective voters isn’t what Nigerians need now – He revealed that change is what Nigerians need and that is what his party, All Progressives Congress, APC is delivering and would continue to deliver.
We cannot and will not share money from the treasury to prospective voters. Nigerians have long sought for change and only the All Progressives Congress (APC) can deliver — and is delivering — that change. Our people can no longer be swayed by money politics.
