Former NDDC Director, Tuoyo Omatsuli arraigned for N3.6bn fraud

Yesterday, the Lagos Zonal office of EFCC arraigned Tuoyo Omatsuli, a former Executive Director on Projects, Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and one Francis Momoh before Justice Salisu Saidu of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on a 45-count charge bordering on conspiracy and money laundering to the tune of N3, 645, 000, 000.00 (Three Billion, Six Hundred and Forty- five Million Naira).

Omatsuli and Momoh, who were charged alongside their companies, Don Parker Properties Limited and Building Associates Limited respectively, were said to have shown personal interests in the consultancy contract awarded to Starline Consultancy Services Limited by the NDDC, thereby enriching themselves unlawfully.

Investigations revealed that the defendants received monies in tranches from Starline Consultancy Services Limited through their companies and used the funds to purchase properties across the country.

The offence is contrary to Section 15(2) (b) of the Money Laundering Act 2011 as amended by (Act No. 1 of 2012) and punishable under Section 15(3) of the same Act.
One of the counts reads: “That you, Engineer Tuoyo Omatsuli, Don Parker Properties Limited, Francis Momoh and Building Associates Limited, between August 2014 and September, 2015 at Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, conspired to disguise the illegal origin of the total sum of N3, 645, 000, 000.00 (Three Billion, Six Hundred and Forty-Five Million Naira) being proceeds of unlawful activity to wit: corruption and gratification and thereby commited an offence.”

Another count reads: “That you, Engineer Tuoyo Omatsuli, Don Parker Properties Limited and Francis Momoh sometime in March, 2017 at Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did transfer by selling the interest of Don Parker Properties Limited in the property known as Block 4, Plot B25 Lekki Peninsula residential Scheme 1, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State measuring approximately 587.195 square metres to Redline Properties Limited, which property you had acquired from Jide Tinubu with the proceeds of corruption and gratification credited into the Diamond Bank Plc account of Building Associates Limited by Starline Consultancy Limited and thereby commited an offer.”
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to all the counts when they were read to them.
In view of their pleas, the prosecution counsel, Ekene Iheanacho, asked the court for a trial date and prayed the court to remand the defendants in prison custody to ensure that they attend trial.

However, counsel to the second, third and fourth defendants, Norrison Quarkers, SAN, informed the court that his clients had filed and served bail applications on the prosecution.
Quarker also informed the court that the third defendant, Momoh, was battling with “serious health challenges”, adding that he was initially granted an administrative bail by the EFCC on health grounds.

He, therefore, urged the court to admit the third defendant to bail. Counsel to the first defendant, Bode Omoboriowo, told the court that his client had yet to file and serve his bail application on the prosecution.

Omoboriowo, therefore, prayed the court for a short time to prepare the bail application.
He also prayed the court to remand the first defendant in the EFCC custody pending when the bail application will be filed and served. Prosecution counsel, Iheanacho however, did not oppose the prayers of the defence.

He also stated that he was just served with the bail application of the third defendant in court today. He, therefore, asked the court for time to respond to the applications. Iheanacho further urged the court to remand the defendants in prison custody, adding that the EFCC detention facilitiy was already congested. After listening to both parties, Justice Saidu remanded the defendants in the EFCC custody and adjourned the matter to November 16, 2018 for hearing of the bail application.

‘I stand for sex before marriage because I don’t want to end up with something inadequate’ – Actress Queeneth Agbor

Nollywood actress, Queeneth Agbor, has revealed she is fully in support of sex before marriage, as she doesn’t want to end up with a man who is not sexually active.

Speaking on the importance of sex in a relationship during a recent chat with Sunday Scoop, Agbor said,

“To some people, sex is associated with stability because it increases the bond and maintains a level of stability. As for me, I believe that sex is overrated in a relationship though I stand for sex before marriage with a good reason. I need to test my ‘goods’ so I don’t end up with something inadequate. Cheating is a no-no for me. However, in a relationship, getting to know your partner doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with sex. I prefer to bond mentally and intellectually. I know my lover for who he truly is. Sex gone bad can actually end a relationship before you even get to know the real person.”

Aminat Abiodun, the iyalode of Ibadan, Oyo state capital, died in the early hours of Saturday Dec 8th barely two weeks to her 94th birthday on December 24.

Abiodun was the sole female representative in the 10-member advisory council of the olubadan of Ibadan. Following the death of her predecessor, Wuraola Akintola, Abiodun was installed as the 13th iyalode on October 19, 2007.

Abiola Ajimobi, Oyo state governor, has described the late Iyalode as a “titan” and “colossus who has made her mark in the sand of time”.

I knew mama since I was like nine years old and she was an exemplary mother, very elegant, very beautiful. She had presence both in character and in carriage. She epitomised mobility. She epitomised elegance and consequently became the queen of Ibadanland, if you like Queen of women if that is accepted. She rose through the ranks and paid her dues. She was successful in all ramifications.

So for me I think it’s the passage of a titan of Colossus who has made her mark in the sand of time. I think for me it’s a great loss but let’s take solace in the fact that she lived well, left good children, left me, left us.”
The governor said the ancient city of Ibadan will forever remember “the irreplaceable” Abiodun who will be buried on Sunday.

‘Stop using my pictures on sourvenirs, I am not God’- Pastor Adeboye tells his members

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has warned members of his church to desist from using his pictures and that of his wife, Foluke, on souvenirs for sale. According to him, he is not God and can never share in God’s glory.

The clergyman gave the warning on Friday December 7th at the ongoing annual Holy Ghost Congress of the church holding at the Redemption Camp, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. He said it had come to his notice that some members of his church have started seeing him as God that they use his photos and that of his wife on any of their materials. He appealed to them to stop it as he does not want to incur the wrath of God

“It has been brought to my notice that people are using my picture and that of my wife on key holders, calendars, books and other souvenirs. This is wrong and anyone found with such materials should be arrested and reported to the police. I am not God. I did not send them. I have nothing to do with those materials. I am an ordinary man of God. God will never share his glory with any man. I am not ready to die. Devil, I am not ready to go.

If at any time, God is sensing that a man is trying to share his glory, the man is dead. If you find anyone selling anything whatsoever with my picture or my wife’s, report them to the police immediately.” he said
On why he was forced to publicly call them to order, the clergyman said that recently a woman bought a key holder with his picture and his wife’s inscribed on it and gave it to her child and the child began to eat the key holder and in no time, the picture pasted on the key holder removed and surprisingly what they found was the picture of another tele evangelist, Prophet T. B Joshua.
