Ronaldo Will Accept 2-year Prison Sentence For Tax Fraud In January After Reaching A Deal

Cristiano Ronaldo who is playing for Juventus, is said to have admitted tax fraud charges against him dating back to his time as a Real Madrid player and will accept a prison sentence next month.

Cristiano Ronaldo will accept a two-year suspended prison sentence for tax fraud at a court appearance in January, according to Spanish media.

The Juventus and Portugal star is accused of defrauding Spanish tax authorities out of €14.8million (£13.3million).

According to AS the 33-year-old forward will be formally found guilty at a hearing on January 14 but will not actually serve any prison time.

The reported deal with the Spanish Treasury is set to end a long-running legal saga dating to when Ronaldo played for Real Madrid.

Ronaldo, often regarded as the ‘best player in the world’, originally denied the charges when they were brought against him last summer.

But the striker reportedly admitted a total of four tax offences earlier this year after prosecutors agreed to reduce the amount he was required to pay back.

He is said to have returned €13.4million into Spanish government coffers earlier this year but must still go through the process of his court appearance.

His lawyer may reportedly try to reduce his sentence further from a suspended two years to a fine of €375,000.

The 33-year-old left Real Madrid last summer after nine years, joining Italian champions Juventus.

He helped Real win three consecutive Champions League titles in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Ronaldo is also Portugal’s most-capped player, with 154 appearances, and record goalscorer, with 85.

Some Chelsea fans are stupid – Sarri

Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri, has labelled some fans as “stupid”, amidst latest incidents of racism and discriminatory behaviour.

The Blues’ 2-0 victory over Manchester City last week, was marred by the vicious abuse directed towards Raheem Sterling.

Thursday evening’s trip to Budapest was also tarnished by alleged anti-semitic chanting, during the 2-2 Europa League draw against MOL Vidi.

Chelsea have already condemned their own supporters and urged fans to “summon brainpower”, after supporters aired a rendition of a song that refers to Tottenham disparagingly as ‘Yids’.

The club suspended four fans after Sterling was targeted at Stamford Bridge.

Sarri has admitted he fears supporters will continue to undermine progress.

“I can only say I condemn every form of racism and discrimination. There are the same problems in Italy. There is a form of discrimination with people from the south part of Italy. I was the coach in Naples for three years and I know very well the situation.

“It is normal to fight all together against the problem. I am sometimes surprised that everybody asks to England the solution. There is not a solution. There are some stupid people in England, France, Italy… it is the same all over the world,” the Italian said according to SportsMail.

Rashford speaks on Mourinho, Man Utd ahead of Liverpool clash

Marcus Rashford has insisted Manchester United will not head to Liverpool as underdogs and said Jose Mourinho is a winner.

United head to their bitter rivals sitting sixth in the Premier League, 16 points behind Liverpool after 16 games of the season.

Though, the odds may be stacked against United getting a win, Rashford is confident Mourinho’s side are focused only on themselves.

He told Sky Sports: “We don’t go there as underdogs, I think we go there to win the game, like any game.

“But they are a good team, the intensity they play at makes the game difficult, but we have to match that and try to improve it. But I think it is important to focus on us, and see how we can hurt them, and score some goals.”

Asked if Mourinho is different before these types of games, Rashford says it is difficult not to feel the buzz and excitement, but insists his manager is focused on getting a win.

“I think he’s a bit different, like we all are leading up to these games. It has a special buzz and excitement, and as people we can’t hide that.

“But he’s a winner, you know, so leading up to the game he’s just thinking about winning, how are we going to win, and what we are going to do to win the game, because the three points is what matters,” he added.
